Care for your silk

How often do you wash?

  • Silk pillowcases, like your other bed linens, come into direct contact with your skin every night, so it's important to wash them regularly — typically about every seven to ten days.
  • Can silk be steamed? Always steam silk garments if you can. The steam will gently remove any visible creases and wrinkles and add luster to the fabric. The hot steam from a steamer also removes odors and kills bacteria, while nourishing the textile fibers and allowing them to regain their natural shape.

Silk bedding does require special care, but it is not at all difficult to do. In fact, you can launder your silk bedding right in your washing machine if you follow a few simple instructions. Run your silk sheets and silk pillowcases in a load by themselves in cool water on a gentle cycle. We recommend using a detergent specially formulated for silk and also placing your silk items in mesh laundry bags to protect them from snags and tears. Hang your silk items to dry indoors or outdoors away from direct sunlight. Ironing is not necessary; once you put your silk bed sheets back on the bed they will smooth out naturally. Use a cool iron if needed to restore the luster of your silk pillowcase.

Why Silk?

What is the benefit of Mulberry silk?

  • It's nourishing for your skin. Silk has a reputation for mitigating break-outs and smoothing out wrinkles, which is reason enough to love it.
  • It'll give you your own silky hair.
  • It's friendly to the environment.
  • It's hypoallergenic and antibacterial.
  • It feels like absolute heaven.
  • This is great news for those with dry or flaky facial skin.
  • Unlike cotton and manmade fibers that can draw moisture from your skin while you sleep, silk does the opposite.
  • Do you get hot sleeping next to someone? Silk is a natural heat regulator. It is a lightweight, breathable material whose permeability allows your body to warm or cool as needed. Silk’s ability to wick moisture away helps to keep you cool as it does this without getting damp, so you stay dry. This is a great advantage over cotton, which will soak up any sweat and leave you damp and clammy.

It is no wonder that there are an increasing number of people who for their beauty sleep are switching from Egyptian cotton to sleeping on pure silk pillowcases and silk bedding.

What is 22-Momme?

Mommes (mm), is a unit traditionally used to measure the quality of silk fabrics. The Density of silk is measured by momme. One momme = 4.340 grams per square meter; 8 mommes is approximately 1 ounce per square yard or 35 grams per square meter.

Momme describes the silk’s weight and density. Normally, the higher the momme weight, the more durable the weave, the more luxurious the fabric is, the more suitable it is for heavy-duty use, and the longer the shelf-life. Besides, the heavier the silk, the more opaque it becomes. So it is important to choose the proper choice in the momme weight.

For example, when choosing silk products such as pajamas, pillowcases, and eye masks, 22-momme is the best choice in terms of durability, opaque and weight; and 25-momme will feel uncomfortable because it is too heavy. For soft and light products like silk hair scrunchies, 19-momme is a better choice.

Hair health?

Does mulberry silk help hair?

  • Reduces hair damage caused by friction. Helps skin retain moisture.
  • Mulberry silk typically absorbs about 30% less moisture than scrunchies made from a cotton fabric. This will prevent hair dryness. Its hypoallergenic properties can also prevent problems for those with sensitive scalps.
  • “Silk pillowcase against hair breakage”
  • Look for silk pillowcases that use between 19 and 25 momme. It's an indication of higher quality and durability.
  • A pure silk pillowcase is naturally hypoallergenic, as pure silk fabric is spun from the fiber of the silkworm's protective cocoon. Silk is naturally resistant to dust mites, mold and fungus, which makes it the ideal environment for your hair.
  • Do silk pillowcases prevent frizzy hair? Yes! Thanks to silk's super smooth texture, hair glides over it without any friction which means you'll be less likely to wake up with frizzy hair, tangles, or bedhead, whereas cotton can snag hair and muss it up into a nest of tangles overnight.
  • The liquid smooth finish of silk provides an incredibly soft and frictionless surface for babies to lie on, preventing bald patches, as well as allowing for hair growth where bald spots already exist.
  • There are many reasons why sleeping on silk is better for anyone with hair loss or thinning hair: Silk helps hair and scalp retain moisture: Silk is a protein-based fiber that contains amino acids that naturally moisturize your hair and skin.
  • Cotton and many other fibers can snag hair, albeit slightly. But each time it pulls on the roots it will have an effect. Split ends, breakages, tangles or simply a frizzy mess.
  • Mulberry silk pillowcases have a soft, smooth texture that allows hair to slide across its surface, damage free. In the same way, silk helps your skin retain moisture, silk can keep your hair softer too.
